There are so many reasons why September is a great time to visit Europe. It’s the end of summer, which means the weather has already cooled yet it’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors.
And since most people are already at work or in school, there will be fewer crowds in its top tourist spots. Whether you are traveling with kids in tow, by yourself, or with your partner, here are the best places to visit in Europe this September.
Want to read about my TOP advice of a place to visit in September? Then you must read my article on Why you need to visit Sardinia in September/October! I wrote it ages ago and it’s still an evergreen that brought so many lovely people to my marvelous Island!
1.BERLIN
If you love attending music festivals, then head to Berlin. In September, this German city is hosting the Lollapalooza music festival, which will be taking place in various locations all over the city. There are many other reasons to visit Berlin.
It is famous for its nightlife scene, and during the day, you can explore its various museums, historical sights, and feast in its sumptuous cuisines. While in Berlin, don’t forget to sample its world-famous beer.
2. THE LAKE DISTRICT
Autumn is the prettiest time to visit The Lake District when the leaves turn to oranges, reds, and yellows. And since there are fewer visitors at this time of the year, you could enjoy these gorgeous sceneries all by yourself.
Visiting in September also means the accommodations are cheaper. So treat yourself to a relaxing stay at one of those cozy independent cottages. Some of these cottages sit in large gardens overlooking the beautiful lake while others are fitted with luxury amenities, such as spa baths and pool.
3. CAPPADOCIA – TURKEY
If you’d prefer to explore a more exotic destination in September, head to Cappadocia, a beautiful region in central Turkey that’s famous for its remarkable cone-shaped rock formations.
With its fairy tale scenery, diverse hiking trails, and mesmerizing historical sights, Cappadocia will make your September holiday a truly unforgettable one. To make the most of your visit, take a hot air balloon ride where you float seamlessly above the sky as you marvel at the stunningly rugged landscape from above.

4. MAJORCA – BALEARIC ISLANDS (SPAIN)
Majorca is the largest island in the Balearic and a hotspot for tourists who are seeking a relaxing beach getaway in summer. Visiting in September means you’ll be able to relax even more since there are not too many people everywhere.
The beaches are almost empty and you don’t have to queue to be seated at the best bars and restaurants on the island. The weather on the island is still nice in September. It is cooler and more comfortable than the sweltering summer.
Thus, you’d be able to fully enjoy the various activities on the Island, such as taking a Alcudia boat excursion from the Port of Alcudia.
5. DUBROVNIK – CROATIA
September is a good time to visit Dubrovnik, where the weather is warm and a little bit moist. Aside from the beautiful weather, you’d be able to explore the medieval walled city without the throngs of tourists.
There are plenty of historical sights to explore in Dubrovnik and if you’re a big fan of the Game of Thrones TV show, then you’ll love this city even more. As the main filming location for the King’s Landing, the fictional city in the series, a visit to Dubrovnik is certainly in the bucket list of every Game of Thrones fanatic.
